DFFL News - For the week of November 16th, 2009

With only 3 weeks left to play things are as tight as ever as only two games separate the top 9 teams, - including the ridiculous 4 way tie which is the Blogojevich Division.

A reminder that our playoff and tie-breaker formats are as follows;

The DFFL plays a weekly head-to-head format and uses a 13 game regular season, with each team playing their divisional opponents twice, and having 7 games with teams outside of their division.

The 3 division winners, plus the 3 remaining teams with the best record will qualify for the DFFL Governor's Cup Championship, which is a single elimination playoff during weeks 14, 15 and 16 of the NFL regular season. The 6 remaining non-qualifying teams will also compete in a "consolation bracket" playoff during weeks 14, 15 and 16.

The 2 division winners with the best records will receive a bye during week 14, while the 3rd division winner will face the #6 seed in week #14. The playoff pairings are determined by each team's regular season record, with the highest seeded team facing the remaining team with the fewest wins.

Tie Breakers:

In the event of a tie between two teams in the standings, the tie-breaking criteria to be used are as follows:

1. Head-to-head record
2. Total offensive points scored during the regular season
3. Points scored in head-to-head games
4. Won - Loss record against divisional opponents
5. Coin Flip

For ties between three or more teams:

1. Total offensive points scored during the regular season
2. Won-loss record versus common opponents

Bogus move of the week;  Any loss by a tie breaker receives immediate BMOTW consideration.  FTC wins this week’s award for sitting Steven Jackson’s 10 points in their overtime loss.

Thanks in part to the recent free-fall of Threat Level Orange – if the season ended today the Flaming Liberals (7-3) would be the #1 seed throughout the Governor’s Cup playoffs by virtue of beating both TLO and the Advice Lords in their head to head meetings.

Upon hearing the news, Liberals coach Brian Strempke issued a directive to the DFFL News offices – demanding that every Liberals game be the feature game of the week every week for the remainder of the season—regardless of the opponent or the significance of the game. DFFL News officials have refused to comment..........
